The term Holocaust indicates the genocide of six million Jews, for which the authorities of Nazi Germany, their allies and collaborators were responsible. Jews were the primary victims among groups deemed "undesirable" or "inferior" by the Nazis for political or racial reasons. By extension, the term "Holocaust" is sometimes referred to all victims of systematic Nazi persecution and mass murder, including the extermination of Romani peoples, the killing of Polish and other Slavic civilians, the killing of prisoners of Soviet war, political opponents, religious dissidents such as Jehovah's Witnesses and Pentecostals, killings and violence against homosexuals, people with mental or physical disabilities and black Europeans.
